Installing Ceramic TileWhen it comes to installing ceramic tile in a bathroom this can be a relatively simple job for you to do. But you must make sure that you do have the right kinds of equipment to hand in order to ensure that this is the case. The types of tools you will for laying a ceramic floor in a bathroom includes a lavel, hammer, tile cutter and nipper, a grooved trowel, spacers, tile sponge, mastic, grout and sealant as well as caulk and a pair of rubber gloves. Once you have these together and you have selected the ceramic tiles for installing in your bathroom you can now get on with the project of laying them. Below we take you through the steps that will help you to prepare the area on to which you will be installing ceramic tiles. Step 1 – If you are laying the tiles on the floor then you should make sure that it has been stripped of all previous coverings so you are down to the bare underlay or the concrete. If you intend on installing ceramic tiles on walsl then they should be smooth and any wallpaper, plaster or peeling paint has been removed. Step 2 – Next take the level and use this to draw a line from the edge of the bath and use this to place the first (starter) row of ceramic tiles down. You should spend time adjusting the distance between each tile to ensure that when it comes to laying the last one in that row you will not need to cut in more than halfway across it. You should then remove this tile and cut it to the size required so that it fits in the space. Use a tile cutter to carry out this process. However when it comes to fitting the tiles around pipes use the tile nipper instead. Step 3 – Once you know the position of each tile you should remove them so that the mastic can then be applied. It is best to apply it with the grooved trowel and only enough to allow you to lay 5 tiles at a time. If you apply more than this it will dry before the tiles are laid and they will not adhere to it. As you lay the first row of tiles make sure that a gap of around 1/8 inch is left between them and bath as you will then use the cap tiles here. |
